Welcome to Norfolk
Established in 1845, The Coach & Horses has been welcoming locals and visitors since the reign of Queen Victoria. Nestled in the Norfolk countryside in the beautiful village of Dersingham, the Coach & Horses provides the perfect place to dine, stay and relax.
Known for its breathtaking countryside, sprawling coastline, quaint villages, and peaceful way of life, Norfolk has so much to offer. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet weekend away or are exploring some of Norfolk’s many attractions, come and see for yourself our gorgeous pub, restaurant and boutique rooms: we can’t wait to give you our warmest Norfolk welcome!
Local Area
Located in North-West Norfolk, halfway between King’s Lynn and Hunstanton, Dersingham is a charming village bordering the Royal Sandringham Estate.
Dersingham isn’t just an ideal location for accessing the rest of Norfolk, but it is also a unique place full of character and charm of its own. Overlooked by the 14th-century St Nicholas Church, our village is steeped in history, which is evident from the gorgeous architecture and deep-rooted values of our community.
For lovers of the outdoors, there are few places better suited. The unique countryside makes for an environment that is quintessentially Norfolk. One perfect example is the Dersingham Bog Nature Reserve – a magical landscape home to diverse wildlife and a variety of colourful, vibrant fauna and flora. Only two miles from the village lies Snettisham RSPB nature reserve, where the wildlife observation hides give panoramic views across the saline lagoons, salt marsh, and the vast expanse of mudflats that make up The Wash.
Things To Do
The list of things to do in our gorgeous part of West Norfolk goes on and on! Here are some of our favourites:
The Royal Sandringham Estate
The country retreat of their majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Sandringham opens up its doors to visitors all year round. Visit here to marvel at the house and its interiors, stroll through the gardens, and pick up something to remember your trip at the on-site shop. For children, there is a beautiful large play area and lots of space for picnics and ball games. And as one of Norfolk’s most popular dog walking spots, there really is something for everyone here.
The North Norfolk Coastline
Hunstanton, Heacham, and Brancaster are just a few examples of the stunning beaches that are waiting to be discovered across the North Norfolk Coast, famed for their natural beauty. Try crabbing on the front at Wells and enjoy some of the traditional amusements and fairs in the Victorian seaside resort of Hunstanton.
Snettisham Park
One of our neighbouring villages, Snettisham, is home to the much-beloved Snettisham Farm. The farm’s daily deer safari is NOT to be missed. This is a unique and magical opportunity to meet and feed their spectacular herd of red deer, the largest species of deer found in the UK.
Houghton Hall
Constructed in the 1720s for Britain’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, Houghton Hall is now the residence of the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, a direct descendant of Sir Robert Walpole and his family. The Hall, surrounded by extensive parkland, is known for its iconic white fallow deer and features notable attractions, including an award-winning Walled Garden, the world’s largest private collection of model soldiers in the Model Soldier Museum, and a charming Cafe and Gift Shop. And with regular contemporary art exhibitions hosted here, it really is worth a visit.
Birdwatching
Seasoned twitcher or novice, the Coach & Horses makes an ideal resting ground for your birdwatching adventures.
West Norfolk provides year-round birdwatching opportunities – in Spring, observe the bird migration from the close-by RSPB Titchwell Marsh; Summer offers the chance to combine birdwatching with a trip to see the seals at Blakeney Point; come Autumn, journey to Ken Hill to see thousands of birds migrate here from countries like Iceland and Norway; and in Winter, you won’t have to travel far to see flocks of geese and swans land in WWT Welney.
After a day well-spent, there’s nothing better than a gorgeous meal, a glass of something lovely, and a night in one of our divine boutique hotel rooms.
Dog Friendly
Our pub, restaurant and hotel is dog-friendly, so no need to leave your pooch behind when visiting us! Rest assured your dog will be cared for like one of our own – with a bed, blankets, and a bag of treats provided by Pooch’s, handmade less than 5 miles away.
Our dog-friendly dining tables mean both you and your furry friends can eat together. We have dog snacks and treats available at the bar to keep everyone at the table content.
With an endless list of beautiful dog walks close by – including several in Dersingham itself and bordering Sandringham, as well as the gorgeous coastline – your pets won’t want to leave!
